Zurich has a heart from the Middle Ages where iconic St. Peter’s church keeps you on Swiss time with the largest clock face in Europe. Lucerne’s natural beauty and jaw-dropping scenery will leave you in awe the minute you step foot in this medieval town. The journey is part of the adventure in Switzerland! By boat, foot, cogwheel railway, cableway, gondola, coach and train you’ll cross azure Lake Lucerne, step through the lovely town of Interlaken, summit famous peaks such as Mt. Pilatus and the Eiger and explore the Jungfrau region known as the Top of Europe. Savour your taste buds with cheese and chocolate, Switzerland’s best and most delicious reasons to visit! UNESCO World Heritage sites, graceful charm and iconic architecture of the past are all part of this female-friendly itinerary.

Please note that an average/moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy the various activities of this tour. Trip activities include walking, sometimes on uneven ground, climbing stairs and getting on and off buses, trains, boats etc. As a courtesy to fellow travellers all Broad Escape tours are considered non-smoking in that smoking will not be permitted during group activities or on board the bus. For your own safety as well as the safety of other passengers and the communities that we visit, we require that all travellers in this journey are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks prior to departure.

  • Insurance has not been included as part of your tour package. We strongly recommend that all travellers ensure they have adequate Travel Insurance. These products, including Cancellation and Medical coverage, can be purchased through our office at time of deposit.

DAY 1 | Thursday, September 8 (D)
ARRIVE ZURICH

Upon group arrival* at Zurich airport, meet our Swiss tour guide and board our private motor coach to transfer into Zurich for a walking tour of the old centre. Enjoy free time in Zurich this afternoon before convening for a welcome dinner.

*Broad Escapes will have a group flight from Toronto. The group transfer will be based on the recommended group flight arrival time. Private transfers (at an additional cost) can be arranged for those arriving at a different date/time. Flights from all gateways can be arranged through Broad Escapes.

DAY 2 | Friday, September 9 (BL)
LUCERNE
Travel by train to Lucerne, a small city known for its mountainous backdrop, located next to Lake Lucerne. The city is a popular destination for those visiting Central Switzerland thanks to the access to many outdoor activities, its breathtaking natural beauty and historic, medieval architecture. Take a walking tour past 15th-century frescoed houses and impossibly quaint wooden bridges and climb to the top of the medieval towers along the city walls for spectacular views of this picturesque city and its surroundings. In the tiny streets of old town (Altstadt), there’s often a craft market and dozens of shops full of unique handmade goods.

DAY 3 | Saturday, September 10 (BD)
LUCERNE
It’s tour time. Hop on the Golden Pilatus tour, a trip taking you to the most spectacular spots on Mt Pilatus including its summit by boat, cogwheel railway, aerial cableway and gondola. The trip starts in Lucerne with a boat trip on the lake before heading to Alpnachstad, where we’ll board the steepest cogwheel railway in the world, to the summit at 2132 metres. Enjoy a panorama of the alps before descending via the aerial cableway and gondola. Return to Lucerne and spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Naps, strolls along the lake, cheesy food and beer are always encouraged.

DAY 4 | Sunday, September 11 (BD)
JUNGFRAU REGION
Travel to Jungfrau region and enjoy this picturesque mountain paradise. Here we’ll take a short train ride to Lauterbrunnen village and explore the stunning valley in which it’s nestled. Take another train up Jungfraujoch to what’s known as the Top of Europe. Enjoy attractions such as Alpine Sensation, Eismer Station, Ice Palace, Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven, and the Sphinx Observation Deck. If you’re feeling fit and keen to get out there, there’s also the option to tackle some of the trails around the monumental Eiger Mountain. There are plenty of trails to choose from flat and easy to certified heart-pumpers.

DAY 5 | Monday, September 12 (BL)
BULLE
Bulle, located in La Gruyere district, is the town of medieval dreams and yes, it’s the home of the cheese too. Lush green fields and mountain peaks stretch as far as the eye can see, dotted with dairy cows and the occasional cheese-filled tourist. Arrive in town and head off for a walk with our leader, then visit La Maison cheese factory to learn more about this world-famous cheese and enjoy a fondue experience. This afternoon visit the medieval town of Gruyeres. Find out why there is a Tibet museum in the castle and visit the quirky Alien bar. Enjoy an evening at leisure in the quaint streets of Bulle.

DAY 6 | Tuesday, September 13 (BL)
BULLE
Today you’ll find out what Switzerland is famous for. Other than the cheese, trains, clocks, mountains, lakes, adorable villages, Roger Federer…you get the idea. But today we’re off to a chocolate factory! Swiss chocolate is the real deal and one of the most delicious milky treats around. Take a tour of a local chocolate producer and learn some of their secrets before a free afternoon to relax. Stroll around town, continue tasting the local cheese and chocolate (when in Rome) or head down to Lake Gruyere for some even fresher air and stunning view of the mountainous backdrop.

DAY 7 | Wednesday, September 14 (BD)
BERN
Travel to Bern, Switzerland’s capital and arguably one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Acquaint yourself with this gorgeous city on a guided walking tour and explore the house where Albert Einstein lived and developed his Theory of Relativity here at the start of the 20th century. Check out the famous Bern Clock and the Parliament House for some pictures. In the evening, enjoy dinner and beer sampling at the local brewery.

DAY 8 | Thursday, September 15 (BD)
ZURICH
Travel by train back to Zurich followed by an afternoon at leisure. Gather tonight for a farewell dinner to reminisce with fellow travellers about the wonderful memories you have shared along the way.

DAY 9 | Friday, September 16 (B)
ZURICH
After breakfast, say farewell to Switzerland with a group transfer to the Zurich airport.

*Broad Escapes will have a group flight to Toronto. The group transfer will be based on the recommended group flight departure time. Private transfers (at an additional cost) can be arranged for those departing at a different date/time. Flights from all gateways can be arranged through Broad Escapes.

Due to traffic or other circumstances beyond our control, it may be necessary or desirable to make alterations. Broad Escapes reserves the right to change the itinerary when deemed necessary.**
