Continue to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to watch and interact with baby elephants at feeding time. Mid-day we’ll enjoy lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden Restaurant followed by a visit to the Karen Blixen House, once lived in by Karen, and made world famous as the movie set for “Out of Africa” with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. We suggest you watch the movie before our departure! Afterwards, enjoy a visit to the Kazuri Bead Factory. This all-woman craft co-operative enterprise was founded several decades ago by an Englishwoman who wanted to help single mothers become self-supporting. Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.
DAY 3| Friday, September 22 (BLD)
This morning the safari begins as we travel north to Samburu National Park. The drive from the urban center of Nairobi, through the fertile highlands, the semi-arid frontier of Kenya is breath-taking and a great way to see the countryside. Drive straight to our camp for check-in and lunch. After lunch, relax at the camp before we depart for the first, exhilarating afternoon game drive. Return to the camp to freshen up before dinner.
Overnight in Samburu – 2 nights – Asnil Samburu Camp
DAY 4 | Saturday, September 23 (BLD)
This morning we join our skilled guides for an incredible morning game drive. One of the amazing things about Samburu is that we will likely see species that are unique to this region. The Grévy’s zebra, also known as the imperial zebra, is the largest species of zebra. It is found in the Samburu area as well as parts of Ethiopia. With luck, we’ll see some today! Return to camp for lunch followed by a Samburu Cultural Village visit in the afternoon. The Samburu people are some of the friendliest in Kenya. Originally a nomadic tribe, they are still very traditional, and have not parted with old customs. Here you will have a chance to see the Samburu women in their day-to-day life and have an opportunity to purchase some of their hand made jewelry. Later we continue with an afternoon game drive before returning to our luxury tented camp for dinner and a relaxing evening.
DAY 5 | Sunday, September 24 (BLD)
This morning we say farewell to Samburu and drive to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Enjoy a game drive enroute to the camp as we enter the conservancy. This charming camp offers a blend of under-canvas ambiance and safari luxury amidst a waterhole offering unrivalled wildlife-watching. Along the way we will visit the Nanyuki spinners and weavers (NSW), an organization that trains women from the surrounding villages who are living in poverty, widowed or single, the craft of spinning, knitting and weaving. Later we will have another exciting game drive then time to unwind and relax at our camp.
Overnight in Ol Pejeta – 2 nights – Sweetwaters Serena (or similar)
DAY 6 | Monday, September 25 (BLD)
Awake for an early morning game drive. Africa’s most iconic species hunt, graze, breed and fight for survival on the plains of Ol Pejeta every day, in an ecosystem that has one of the highest densities of wildlife in Kenya. Using the latest technology to monitor species populations, and smart fencing techniques that allow free movement of migratory wildlife, Ol Pejeta prides itself on being at the cutting edge of conservation innovation. As the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, Ol Pejeta is also safeguarding some of the most vulnerable wildlife in the world and advocating for change. After lunch enjoy another incredible game drive in the conservancy.
DAY 7 | Tuesday, September 26 (BLD)
Early this morning we will transfer to Nanyuki airstrip for our domestic flight (1 hr 30 mins) to the Masai Mara. Upon arrival check in to our luxury tented camp, followed by lunch. This afternoon we embark on our first game drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Here our experienced guides will track the animals that roam the land. The eco-diversity and sheer size of the Masai Mara Game Reserve provides the habitat to house a wide range of animal species. The most recognized are known as the “Big 5”, which include the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, rhinoceros, leopard and the lion. Numerous other species of wildlife inhabit this area including hyenas, gazelles, impalas, giraffes, zebras, vultures, cranes, eagles, falcons and ostriches. Return to camp for dinner and a relaxing evening.
Overnight in Masai Mara – 2 nights – Mara West Camp (or similar)
DAY 8 | Wednesday, September 27 (BLD)
Masai Mara National Reserve – Safari
This morning starts with an early morning game drive in the famed Masai Mara National Reserve. Have your cameras ready for this spectacular game viewing. With any luck we’ll have a chance to view the famous wildebeest migration. This annual migration through the Serengeti and Masai Mara, the largest migration of wildlife in the world, is one of the safari highlights. Sightings cannot be guaranteed as herds move with the available food sources, but generally the wildebeest are in the Masai Mara from June/July through September/October before they return to the Serengeti. Return to camp for breakfast and a day filled with cultural immersion. Kenya is a magical country filled with outstanding wildlife and diverse landscapes, but what truly makes Kenya a special place are its inhabitants; people like the Masai who have lived in close harmony with the land for centuries. Today we have a special opportunity to be immersed in the local community with a visit to a local village, cultural interaction with village members, a visit to the medical clinic and maternity ward, hands-on opportunities to interact with school children and more. This truly will be an inspiring and memorable day for all.
DAY 9 | Thursday, September 28 (BLD)
Masai Mara National Reserve – Safari
Today we transfer to another area of the mighty Masai Mara National Reserve. Here we’ll explore the diversity of this park with both a morning and afternoon game drive. This exciting day will end back at the camp for dinner, conversation and no doubt, some photo sharing with your fellow travellers.
Overnight in Masai Mara – 2 nights – Ashnil Mara Camp (or similar)
DAY 10 | Friday, September 29 (BLD)

Those who choose not to take the balloon safari will set out for a spectacular day of game viewing. The group will reconnect later in the morning, enjoy a picnic lunch, and continue to track the animals in a different area of the park. Return to camp in the late afternoon with time to freshen up before our final evening. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner to reminisce with fellow travellers about this magical journey.
